Flag #55 - Municipal Brewworks
Flag #55 | Municipal Brewworks | Hamilton, OH | 2023 | Engine Series | Hose Origin: Hamilton Fire Department
Some buildings hold more history than their walls can tell.
Municipal Brewworks sits in the old bays of Hamilton Fire Station #2, part of a historic municipal complex built in 1935. Where firefighters once pulled on turnout gear and climbed onto rigs, patrons now gather over craft beer in a space that still feels like it belongs to those who served. The old city hall stood next door. The police station was just steps away. This corner of Hamilton was built for public service.
It's the right place for Flag #55.
This Engine Series flag hangs vertically in the brewery, crafted from hose retired by Hamilton Fire Department—the same department that answered calls from this very station for decades. But this flag carries a weight beyond its materials.
On November 23, 2015, Firefighter Patrick Wolterman responded to a house fire that turned out to be arson. A floor gave way beneath him. Patrick made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the citizens of Hamilton, leaving behind a family, a crew, and a community that still feels his absence nine years later.
Scott Carr has family history with Hamilton Fire Department, making this flag personal in ways that go beyond craftsmanship. When Brotherhood Designs created Flag #55, they weren't just repurposing hose—they were honoring a brother.
The Firefighter's Prayer asks for strength to save lives, alertness to hear the weakest shout, and protection for the families left behind when duty calls a firefighter home for the last time. Patrick answered that call with everything he had.
Flag #55 hangs where firefighters once stood ready, reminding everyone who raises a glass that the spirit of service never really leaves a place built for heroes.
