Flag #2 - Ale Emporium
Flag #100 | Mike Williams Fishers, IN | 2025 | Squad Series
Every movement needs someone willing to take the first chance.
In September 2021, two Fishers Fire Department firefighters walked into Ale Emporium on Olio Road with an idea and a flag. Scott Carr and Rob Demlow had been experimenting with turning retired fire hose into American flags—crafting something meaningful from material that had seen real service. They believed in what they were building. They just needed someone else to believe too.
Manager Terry Adam and owner Tony Kwiatkowski didn't hesitate. They saw two firefighters willing to try something new, and they said yes.
On November 15, 2021, when Ale Emporium reopened its newly renovated Fishers location, Flag #2 hung on the wall—the first public exhibition of what would become Brotherhood Designs. An Engine Series flag made from hose retired by Fishers Fire Department, displayed in a place where the community gathers over honest pizza and world-famous Hermanaki wings.
That single act of belief became the foundation.
Terry treated Rob and Scott like family. Tony gave them a platform before anyone knew what was coming. The Ale Emporium team embraced the work not as decoration, but as a statement—a unique expression of service, craftsmanship, and the idea that what's been retired doesn't have to be forgotten.
Four years later, Flag #2 still hangs in Fishers. Brotherhood Designs has grown from an idea into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with flags displayed across the country. And the partnership that started it all? It's not over. Something new is brewing between Brotherhood and Ale Emporium—in another city.
Every hose has a story. This one started with a restaurant that took a chance on two firefighters with a dream.
