Flag #1 - Fishers Fire Department Station 392
Flag #1| Fishers Fire Department Station 392 | Fishers, IN | 2018 | Ladder Series | Hose Origin: Fishers Fire Department
It started with hose that was headed for a landfill.
Scott Carr and Rob Demlow had worked together at Fishers Fire Department for years—logging countless hours on shift, running calls, and discovering they shared something beyond the job. They had an eye for creativity and a habit of finishing each other's ideas. Station logo projects during downtime turned into bigger visions. They started to see potential where others saw waste.
In 2018, retired fire hose sat around Station 392 with nowhere to go. It had done its job—years of protecting life and property in Fishers, Indiana—but its service was over. Standard procedure meant disposal. Scott and Rob looked at that hose and saw something else entirely.
What if it didn't have to end there?
They built a flag. Not for sale, not for recognition—just a dedication to their firehouse, crafted from the same hose they'd dragged through front doors and stretched across parking lots. A piece of their station's history, transformed into something that could hang on a wall and tell its story for generations.
Flag #1 was never meant to start a movement. It was two firefighters with a creative streak, some downtime, and a belief that what they carried into burning buildings deserved better than a dumpster.
But people noticed. Friends asked for flags of their own. The requests kept coming. What started as a single piece of station pride became an overwhelming response that Scott and Rob couldn't ignore.
In January 2022, Brotherhood Designs LLC was born. Three years later, it became Brotherhood Designs Corporation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to honoring first responders, supporting their families, and preserving the spirit of service through sustainable craftsmanship.
Over 45 years of combined firefighting experience. More than a decade working side by side. And one flag that proved retired hose still has stories to tell.
Flag #1 hangs at Station 392, right where it belongs—a reminder that every flag in The Brotherhood Collection exists because two firefighters refused to throw away something that still had meaning.
Every hose has a story. This is where they all began.
