Flag #84 - M&T Builders

Flag #84 | M&T Builders | Idaho | 2024 | Engine Series | Hose Origin: FDNY

Some hose carries more weight than others.

Flag #84 began its story in New York City, where FDNY firefighters dragged it through the streets of a borough that has seen both the worst and best of humanity. When that hose was retired from service, it carried decades of calls answered, fires fought, and lives protected—including the legacy of 343 firefighters who gave everything on September 11, 2001.

Brotherhood Designs transformed that FDNY hose into something unlike their traditional work. The "Tragedy to Triumph" flag incorporates excerpts from newspapers published on 9/11, weaving the headlines of that day into the stripes of the American flag. It's a piece that doesn't let you forget, but also doesn't let you stop there.

The flag was created for the Heroes Defense 9/11 Banquet in Idaho Falls, donated to support their mission of honoring first responders and military personnel. When the auction opened, M&T Builders recognized what they were looking at—a piece of history transformed into a symbol of resilience.

They brought it home to Idaho and hung it on their office wall.

On September 11, 2024, that flag looked out over a workspace thousands of miles from Ground Zero, reminding everyone who sees it that tragedy doesn't have to be the end of the story. The same city that experienced unimaginable loss also showed the world what courage looks like—firefighters climbing stairs while everyone else ran down.

From FDNY's hands to a wall in Idaho, Flag #84 carries the message forward: we remember, and we rise.
