THE COMPERATORE PROJECT
Training Weekend Funded - Now Building Scholarship Fund
The Story
On July 13, 2024, Chief Corey Comperatore did what he'd done his entire life—he protected his family.
When gunfire erupted at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Corey didn't hesitate. He shielded his wife Helen and daughters from the shooter's bullets, giving his life so they could keep theirs. It was the final act of a man who had spent decades running toward danger so others could run away from it.
Corey served 34 years as a volunteer firefighter with Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, Station 27. He wasn't just a member—he was a chief, a leader, someone younger firefighters looked up to.
"He always had a smile on when he was in his gear."
— Kip Johnston
The Comperatore Series
With Helen Comperatore's blessing, Brotherhood Designs created a limited series of just 10 flags to honor Corey's legacy. Most were crafted from wildland hose retired from Station 27—the same station where Corey answered calls for 34 years.
Two of these flags, signed by Helen and President Donald Trump, were auctioned at the Heroes Defense Gala to fund the training weekend.
Five flags remain available for auction. All flags have a memorial tin on them signed by Helen Comperatore and President Trump!
Profits from the remaining flags will establish scholarships for future firefighters—continuing the work Corey dedicated his life to.
It was only fitting that while we were there training Corey’s crew, we were able to take a run with them for a garage fire!
The Community That Showed Up
The Comperatore Training Weekend was made possible by businesses, leaders, and friends who understand that honoring service means showing up.

Firefighter Scholarships
Auction profits from remaining Comperatore Series flags will establish scholarships for aspiring firefighters—funding training, equipment, and fire academy costs for those who want to serve.
Future Training Events
The January 2026 weekend was just the beginning. Sponsors can fund additional training events in Pennsylvania communities where Corey served—extending his legacy of preparation and protection.
