Flag #107 - Helen Comperatore
Flag #107 | Helen Comperatore | Sarver, PA | 2025 | Squad Series | Hose Origin: Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, Station 27 Wild Land Hose
On July 13, 2024, Chief Corey Comperatore did what he'd done his entire life—he protected his family.
When gunfire erupted at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Corey didn't hesitate. He shielded his wife Helen and daughters from the shooter's bullets, giving his life so they could keep theirs. It was the final act of a man who had spent decades running toward danger so others could run away from it.
Corey served as a volunteer firefighter with Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, Station 27. He wasn't just a member—he was a chief, a leader, someone younger firefighters looked up to. He wore the uniform because he believed in what it stood for, and he lived that belief every single day.
Flag #107 is the third flag in the Comperatore Series, a limited collection of just ten pieces created to honor Corey's legacy. This Squad Series flag was crafted from wildland hose retired from his own firehouse—the same station where he answered calls, trained with his crew, and served his community for years.
Brotherhood Designs presented the flag to Helen and her family at Corey's Celebration of Life. Attached to it is a memorial tin from Taylor's Tins, a small but meaningful addition that marks the man behind the badge number.
But the flags are only part of the story.
President Donald Trump—leader of the country Corey was proud to serve every day—signed one of the Comperatore Series flags in honor of his sacrifice. Through the Heroes Defense Gala, the auction of these signed pieces raised funds that will bring hands-on training to BTVFC and surrounding departments in partnership with Hook & Halligan Training. Corey spent his career preparing firefighters to do the job right. Now his legacy continues that work.
Some people talk about protecting others. Chief Corey Comperatore proved it with his life.
