Flag #115 - Jasper Fire Department
Flag #115 | Jasper Fire Department | Hamilton, OH | 2025 | Ladder Series | Hose Origin: Jasper Fire Department
Some flags begin with a story. This one began with a wife paying attention.
When Ashley Werner reached out to Brotherhood Designs in early 2025, she had a simple mission: surprise her husband, Lieutenant Matthew Werner, with something that matched two decades of service. Matt had been scrolling through BDC's website when he spotted a flag with the number 109—his badge number. He turned to Ashley and said, "How cool would that be?"
He didn't ask for one. He just admired the work and moved on. But Ashley was listening.
That moment led to Flag #109, a Squad Series piece gifted to Lt. Werner by his family in late July—a tribute to 20 years protecting Jasper as both a firefighter and lineman.
But the story didn't end there.
Jasper Fire Department's response to Flag #109 sparked something bigger. Chief Kenny Hochgesang reached out, and on July 24, 2025, retired 2½" hose from Jasper FD was shipped to Brotherhood Designs—personally collected by Kaden Demlow, Rob's son and a BDC representative. That hose had carried water through Jasper's streets, knocked down flames, and protected the community for years.
It deserved more than a landfill.
Flag #115 emerged as a Ladder Series painted flag incorporating two original couplings from Jasper's hose and LED backlighting that brings the piece to life. It's not just artwork—it's a working piece of the department's history, transformed into something that will hang on their station wall for generations.
On October 30, Chief Hochgesang and members of Jasper Fire made the trip to the Indiana IoT Lab in Fishers to pick up their flag. Less than a week later, Flag #115 was mounted and displayed at Station 1.
Two flags. One department. A story that started with a husband admiring craftsmanship and a wife who refused to let the moment pass.
To Ashley and Lt. Werner: thank you for trusting Brotherhood Designs with your story.
To Chief Hochgesang and Jasper Fire Department: your community runs deep with heritage, and BDC is proud to help preserve it.
Every hose has a story. Jasper's is one worth telling twice.
